Typhoon Dolphin Makes Landfall in China, Triggering Mass Evacuations

Typhoon Dolphin, the year's most powerful cyclone, made landfall near Yuhuan in Zhejiang province at 5:30pm on August 9, 2026, with sustained winds reaching 151km/h.

Authorities evacuated over one million people across eastern China, including 900,000 in Wenzhou, 390,000 in Taizhou, and 30,300 in Shanghai, where 1,400 flights were cancelled.

The storm caused flooding and landslides in the Philippines, leaving seven people missing in Baguio, while earlier impacts in Japan's Okinawa prefecture cut power to over 50,000 buildings.
