US Panel Urges Sanctions on RSS Members Over Mohan Bhagwat Visit

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom has urged the U.S. government to impose targeted sanctions on RSS members and revoke the visa of chief Mohan Bhagwat.

USCIRF chair Asif Mahmood issued the statement on August 26, 2026, citing concerns over the RSS leader's scheduled appearance at an event in New York City on August 29, 2026.

The Indian External Affairs Ministry dismissed the panel's assertions as biased, while the RSS maintains it is a cultural movement focused on uniting Hindus and promoting civilisational glory.
