Karnataka Government Will Not Enforce Hospital Medicine Price Disclosure Circular For Now

The Karnataka government informed the High Court that it will not enforce a circular mandating hospital pharmacies to display purchase and maximum retail prices on bills until November 12.

The undertaking was given to Justice C.M. Pooncha by the State's Food Safety and Drug Administration during a hearing on a petition filed by private hospitals and nursing homes.

The government stated that officials are re-examining the October 1 circular following contentions that disclosing purchase prices exposes confidential commercial arrangements without stakeholder consultation.
