Eight international organisations formed the Global Alliance for Diabetic Foot Survival and Limb Preservation, announced at the DFSI conference in Bengaluru on October 2, 2026.
The alliance cites a 2023 review estimating that 18.6 million people worldwide suffer from diabetic foot ulceration annually, with a five-year mortality rate exceeding 70% post-amputation.
The coalition will focus on global research, workforce training, comparable data collection, and policy advocacy with the World Health Organization and national governments.
