The Northern Ireland exams board, CCEA, will scrap several qualifications, including German, Economics, and Engineering, by the end of the decade.
Final courses for the affected GCSE subjects will begin in 2028 with final awards in 2030, while A-level courses will end in 2029 with awards in 2031.
The decision, attributed to low candidate entry patterns, affects subjects like Professional Business Services, which had 369 A-level entrants in 2026, and GCSE German, which had 587 entrants in 2025.
