Overnight on September 28-29, 2016, the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes targeting terrorist launch pads across the Line of Control to prevent infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir.
The then Director General of Military Operations Lt Gen Ranbir Singh stated that the operation caused significant casualties to terrorists and those supporting them after receiving specific intelligence inputs.
The operation followed the September 18 Uri terror attack that killed 19 soldiers, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi revisited the strikes on the tenth anniversary.
