ECI Seeks 42 Tribunals for West Bengal SIR Appeals

The Election Commission of India has asked the Supreme Court to increase West Bengal's Special Intensive Revision appellate tribunals from 19 to 42 to clear a massive backlog.

The poll body stated in an affidavit that around 38.3 lakh appeals have been filed so far, while over 37 lakh cases remain pending and only 1,26,194 have been decided.

The ECI urged the apex court to establish one tribunal for each of the state's 42 Lok Sabha constituencies to ensure faster case disposal.
