Researchers discovered two new-to-science frog species in Mizoram, named Duttaphrynus phawngpui and Ingerana aizawl after the state's highest peak and capital.
The toad Duttaphrynus phawngpui was found at elevations above 2,000 meters in Phawngpui National Park, while Ingerana aizawl was identified on the Mizoram University campus.
Scientists confirmed the distinct species using DNA mitochondrial gene analysis, morphological measurements, and visual comparisons, highlighting regional biodiversity and climate vulnerabilities.
