Coimbatore student ends life; family alleges caste and beef harassment

A 16-year-old Class 11 student in Coimbatore belonging to a Scheduled Caste community died by suicide on Wednesday following alleged harassment.

The Peelamedu police booked two classmates, teacher Vijayakumar, and principal Arunkumar on charges of abetting suicide and under the SC/ST Act.

The student's mother alleged that the teacher singled out students consuming beef and that classmates subjected the victim to caste-based harassment.
