Miami-Dade Schools Report Enrollment Drop

Miami-Dade County Public Schools reported a decline of nearly 19,000 students on the first day of classes compared to figures from last spring, according to a report from WLRN.

District officials stated the first-day count is only a snapshot and that an official tally in October will determine state funding, while parents express concern over potential school closures.

The district has already closed or consolidated nine schools this year, following a similar trend in Broward County, where officials proposed closing 10 schools after an 11,000-student enrollment drop.
