Bank unions under the UFBU have begun a three-day nationwide strike starting Monday to demand a five-day working week and other pending issues.
Public sector and regional rural banks face disruptions in cheque clearance and cash services, while new private sector banks remain open.
The finance ministry has urged employees to use dialogue instead of strikes, noting that the performance-linked incentive scheme demand was put in abeyance.
