An exploratory study by NIMHANS researchers found a significant association between loneliness among empty-nest parents and higher levels of psychological distress.
Published in BMC Research Notes, the study evaluated 64 parents aged 45 to 65 whose adult children emigrated and lived abroad for at least two years.
The findings indicated that mothers reported significantly higher levels of loneliness and emotional distress than fathers, while excessive streaming was linked to difficulties in emotion regulation.
