New York Governor Kathy Hochul removed Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten from the Cornell University gang rape investigation and appointed State Attorney General Letitia James as a special prosecutor.
The victim filed a civil lawsuit last month alleging she was given ketamine and sexually assaulted by Chi Phi fraternity members at their campus residence in October 2024.
While disciplinary proceedings led to some student expulsions and cleared others, James stated her new investigation will be a monthslong process with no predetermined outcome.
