The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has banned several variants of popular whisky and rum brands, including McDowell's and Old Monk.
The regulator cited violations of flavouring norms, specifically the use of artificial flavours in neutral alcohol, which is prohibited under current guidelines.
Manufacturers, including United Spirits Ltd (USL) and Inbrew, have been ordered to halt sales of the affected products immediately.
