As of September 7, 2026, the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reported 6,757 confirmed cases of Bundibugyo virus disease, with a total of 3,267 deaths recorded in the country.

The outbreak has expanded to 61 health zones across six provinces, with Ituri remaining the epicentre after reporting 1,114 new confirmed cases in the 21 days preceding September 7.

The World Health Organization notes that 85.3% of the 24,719 identified contacts were successfully monitored in the last 24 hours, despite ongoing insecurity and displacement in the region.
