Cardiovascular surgeon Dr Jeremy London clarified on social media that heart attacks occur on the exterior surface of the heart rather than inside the muscle.
Dr London explained that heart attacks typically happen when arterial plaque ruptures and forms a clot that starves the underlying heart muscle of oxygen.
Medical interventions such as stents and bypass surgery are utilized to reestablish blood flow or reroute circulation around blockages on the heart's surface.
