Residents of Kibbutz Nir Oz grapple with rebuilding three years after 7 October attacks

Surviving residents of Kibbutz Nir Oz marked the third anniversary of the 7 October 2023 Hamas-led attacks, which resulted in the killing or kidnapping of one-fourth of its 400-strong community.

Forty-one residents and foreign workers were killed during the assault, while 76 individuals were abducted to Gaza before the final living hostages were returned in October 2025.

An IDF investigation underscored that the military failed to rescue the community, with the first soldiers arriving approximately 40 minutes after the attackers left.
