The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted the Centre four weeks to file its response in a public interest litigation challenging the sale of alcohol in tetra packs resembling fruit juice.
Advocate Vipin Nair argued that packaged alcohol bearing deceptive labels and fruit names encourages underage drinking, public consumption, and drunk driving across states.
The Action Alliance for Recycling Beverage Cartons opposed the petition, stating that such packaging prevents adulteration and is permitted under excise laws in 10 states.
