DMK president M.K. Stalin confirmed on September 10, 2026, that his jawbones were broken during police attacks while imprisoned in a leper ward during the Emergency.

Stalin responded to a gesture made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay in the Assembly, which referenced the injuries Stalin sustained while detained alongside nine others.

Stalin urged the Chief Minister to maintain dignity and act as a role model, noting that he had previously advised Vijay to avoid harsh rhetoric during a courtesy visit.
