Union Minister Nitin Gadkari informed the Rajya Sabha that BS-III vehicles manufactured before 2016 may require replacement of certain rubber parts and gaskets for E20 fuel compatibility.
A study by IOCL, the Indian Institute of Petroleum, SIAM, and ARAI confirmed that legacy vehicles show no significant performance variations or abnormal wear-and-tear when using E20 fuel.
The Minister clarified that these minor maintenance requirements can be managed during routine servicing and that no engine modifications are necessary for vehicles other than the BS-III category.
