Marathi Film Gondhal Selected as India's Official Entry to Oscars 2027

Santosh Davakhar's Marathi folk-thriller Gondhal has been chosen by the Film Federation of India as the country's official entry for the 2027 Oscars.

The film was selected from a shortlist of 33 submissions and unfolds over a single night during a traditional ritualistic performance in a Maharashtrian village.

Director Santosh Davakhar noted that the film features a soundtrack composed by veteran musician Ilaiyaraaja and will be re-released in theatres in five languages.
