A stampede at the Chorbagan Sarbojanin Durga Puja pandal in north Kolkata on Saturday killed 19 people and injured 25 others during a massive crowd surge.
The tragedy occurred around 7:30 pm on Saptami as crowds rushed through a narrow bylane to escape heavy rain, causing people to slip and fall over each other.
Police and eyewitnesses stated that seven people, primarily pandal organisers, have been arrested in connection with the incident.
