Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav released two male Great Indian Bustards into the wild at the Desert National Park in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
The rewilding milestone follows nearly a decade of conservation efforts by scientists and ground staff for the critically endangered bird.
The breeding facilities in Sam and Ramdevra currently house 97 birds, with captive reproduction having produced 29 live chicks in 2026.
