
Shanghai Jiaotong University has launched an investigation into the 2025 death of a girl who underwent an experimental gene-editing procedure for Snijders Blok-Campeau syndrome.
The family reportedly paid $860,000 (₹8.2 crore) for the treatment, while the hospital was fined only $3,600 (₹3.4 lakh) for oversight failures following the patient's death.
Nature’s deputy editor confirmed that no data regarding the human trial was shared with the journal, despite the research being published in their publication.
