NIMHANS and Partners to Launch AI-Assisted Depression Screening Project

NIMHANS, in collaboration with IIT Kharagpur and LGBRIMH Tezpur, is launching 'HEADS' on Thursday to bridge India's mental healthcare gap using artificial intelligence.

Funded by the Wellcome Trust, the two-year study will focus on underrepresented Indian regional languages including Kannada, Assamese, Hindi, Bengali, and English.

The project incorporates a strict human-in-the-loop framework and a 15-member Lived Experience Expert panel across 4,500 clinical interviews to ensure responsible deployment.
