Rare Bourbon Virus Detected in New York State

The rare and potentially fatal Bourbon virus has been detected in New York for the first time, with one patient successfully treated after hospitalization.

The virus, which currently has no vaccine or specific cure, is transmitted through tick bites and requires intensive supportive care.

Health officials are urging residents to take precautions against tick exposure, as the same vectors are also linked to other serious illnesses.
