Paris streets wrecked after cost-of-living protests turn into violent riots

France awoke to widespread damage in Paris on Sunday after riots and looting during demonstrations against rising fuel prices and living costs.

Police arrested about 1,800 people on Saturday as approximately 550,000 demonstrators took to the streets, resulting in over 500 police and firefighter injuries.

President Emmanuel Macron was scheduled to address the nation at 20:00 local time on Sunday following the severe civil disorder.
