Google Assistant to Shut Down on Android and Wear OS

Google will begin shutting down the Google Assistant service on Android and Wear OS devices starting September 4, 2026, as the company transitions users to Gemini.

The shutdown will also affect headphones and vehicles using Android Auto, though Google Assistant will remain functional on Google TV, smart speakers, and cars with built-in Android Automotive.

Google stated the rollout of the service termination may take a few weeks to reach all users, promising a more capable experience through the integrated Gemini platform.
