The US Department of Homeland Security proposed eliminating the up-to-60-day grace period for foreign professionals on H-1B, O-1, L-1, and other work visas after leaving their jobs, requiring them to leave immediately.
The 60-day grace period, in place since 2017, allowed foreign workers time to find another US job or wind up their personal affairs before departure.
The draft rule, which will be opened for public comment, affects professionals across multiple categories including E-1, E-2, E-3, H-1B, L-1, O-1, and TN along with their dependents.
