An Indian cook named Mohammed Tanweeruz Zaman and four other crew members died in a shootout between pirates and Somali security forces during a rescue operation on Tuesday.
The Palau-flagged MT Honour 25 tanker, carrying bitumen and a 22-member crew, was hijacked on April 24 and is currently proceeding under escort to the port of Bosaso.
The Directorate General of Maritime Administration received report of the incident on Wednesday, confirming casualties include three Pakistanis and one Myanmar national alongside the Indian national.
