A study published in npj Aging found that infants exposed to less sugar during their first 1,000 days of life have a 46% lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.
Researchers analyzed data from 60,000 participants born between 1951 and 1956, utilizing the end of sugar rationing in the UK in 1953 as a natural experiment.
The findings also indicated a 27% lower risk of all-cause dementia and a 20% lower risk of anxiety for those with restricted early-life sugar exposure.
