New Urine Test Kit Detects 92% of Bladder Cancer Cases

A new urine test kit, the GALEAS bladder test, successfully detected 92% of bladder cancer cases in a trial of nearly 1,000 patients conducted across seven NHS urology departments.

The study, led by the University of Birmingham, identified 71 out of 77 cancers by analyzing DNA in urine samples, potentially reducing the need for invasive cystoscopy procedures.

Researchers noted that a negative result from the test carries a 99.3% probability of the patient not having bladder cancer, helping clinicians prioritize urgent surgical interventions.
