India Increases Coal Shipments to Power Plants Amid Stock Shortages

The number of Indian power plants with coal stocks below the critical 25% threshold rose to 53 as of September 5, up from 45 on August 26.

The Ministry of Coal has ramped up rail shipments to address supply disruptions caused by monsoon rains and increased electricity demand from El Niño.

Data from the Central Electricity Authority shows that coal stocks at power plants declined by 15.5% between August 1 and August 23 due to lagging deliveries.
