The Africa CDC announced it will roll out a vaccine developed for the Zaire Ebola strain to combat the ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Since May 15, the virus has caused over 1,800 deaths out of nearly 4,000 confirmed cases, with the Bundibugyo variant spreading across five provinces in the country's east and northeast.

Director General Jean Kaseya reported zero deaths among those previously vaccinated against the Zaire strain and confirmed plans to expand the use of remdesivir to treat active cases.
