German prosecutors arrested former BND chief August Hanning on charges of espionage and treason, alleging he shared classified data with foreign powers.
A former bureau chief, identified as Manfred D, was also arrested for allegedly providing Hanning with approximately 2,000 classified documents for financial compensation.
The investigation revealed Hanning used sensitive BND information to draft analyses for foreign intelligence services, with his involvement discovered during a separate custody kidnapping case.
