Delhi High Court Dismisses Petitions for SIT Probes into 2020 and 2019 Riots

The Delhi High Court dismissed a batch of petitions seeking an independent Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the 2020 northeast Delhi riots and 2019 Jamia violence.

The petitions had demanded an independent investigation into alleged police brutality, hate speech by political leaders, and the registration of FIRs against specific police officers.

The communal violence in February 2020 resulted in at least 53 deaths and approximately 700 injuries amid protests surrounding the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
