India's retail inflation rose to 5.54% in September from 4.83% in August, driven largely by costlier food items according to government data released on Monday.
The September figure marks the highest rate recorded in the new Consumer Price Index series introduced in January, with food basket inflation climbing to 7.74%.
The data follows the Reserve Bank of India's decision last week to hike the benchmark repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50%.
