A batch of 16,250 doses of the Ervebo vaccine arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Friday, August 21, 2026, to combat the country's 17th and deadliest Ebola outbreak.
The WHO has allocated 70,000 doses in total, with 50,000 intended for frontline health workers and 20,000 for a clinical trial to test cross-protection against the circulating Bundibugyo strain.
The current epidemic has resulted in 2,516 deaths among 5,290 confirmed cases, with UN coordinator Julien Harneis warning on Friday that the outbreak is growing exponentially across the country's north and east.
