The Madhya Pradesh government constituted a five-member committee to investigate claims that at least 10 people died from consuming spurious liquor in Dewas district between September 27 and October 16.
The inquiry panel, headed by Ujjain Additional District Magistrate Pratham Kaushik, is required to submit its factual report within 15 days.
While villagers alleged the deaths were caused by hooch, the local administration initially dismissed claims and attributed the fatalities to old age, common illnesses, and excessive alcohol consumption.
