Israel to Honour Indian Pilot Capt. Smit Machchhar with Civilian Heroism Award

Israeli President Isaac Herzog announced that Indian Captain Smit Machchhar will receive Israel's highest civilian bravery award for thwarting a cockpit attack.

On September 30, Captain Machchhar fought off an attack by his co-pilot aboard flydubai Flight 1073, saving the lives of 172 passengers and crew members.

President Herzog also presented the Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism to six other individuals on board the flight during a ceremony in Jerusalem.
