Miami-Dade Sheriff Honors PE Teacher for Saving Student's Life

William C. Varas, a physical education teacher at Lighthouse Ministry School, received the MDSO Citizen of the Month award for saving a student on 8 May.

Varas performed abdominal thrusts to dislodge a water bottle cap that had blocked the student's airway, successfully restoring the child's breathing.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office also recognized Lt. Luis F. Correa Jr. and the Florida Caribbean Fugitive Task Force for their service during a ceremony held on 30 July.
