India open to stricter red warnings on food packages, Supreme Court told

The Indian government told the Supreme Court on Thursday that it is open to implementing tougher red warnings on food packaging in a single phase.

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India previously suggested a two-phased labelling programme for products exceeding limits in added sugar, salt, or saturated fat.

The Supreme Court stated it will issue a written order before Friday after hearing a petition from health group '3S And Our Health'.
