The Supreme Court stayed criminal defamation proceedings against Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi regarding his 2019 remarks calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a thief.
The bench agreed to examine a Bombay High Court order from September that refused to quash summons issued to Gandhi over the comments.
BJP member Mahesh Shrishrimal filed the private complaint in 2018 alleging the statements amounted to allegations of theft against the prime minister and party members.
