
Bihar Police arrested a fisherman in Saharsa district on the third day after a viral video showed him capturing a rare Gangetic dolphin from the Kosi River.
The accused, who intended to extract oil from the endangered national aquatic animal, faces charges under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, which prohibits hunting protected species.
The fisherman will be sent to judicial custody following questioning, with potential penalties for the offence including imprisonment of up to seven years and a fine.
