The Chinese animated film 'Niu Lai' has become a surprise box office success, accumulating 17.1 million yuan ($2.5 million) by August 17, 2026, after going viral for its poor quality.
Initially a flop that earned less than 10,000 yuan in its first 10 days, the film saw daily collections jump to 2.3 million yuan on August 18 following widespread internet mockery.
Produced by director Xin Yu Meng and his mother on a budget of roughly 30,000 yuan, the film is now ranked among the top 10 highest-grossing Chinese animations of 2026.
