A 31-year-old Indian Navy sailor, Pradeep Mukherjee, was arrested on October 3 at INS Agrani in Coimbatore by the Andhra Pradesh Police Counter Intelligence cell for allegedly transmitting classified maritime intelligence to a Pakistani operative.
Investigators stated that a female Pakistani intelligence operative contacted Mukherjee months earlier, using an online social media honey trap to obtain sensitive data regarding strategic naval assets and base operations.
Mukherjee, a native of West Bengal who joined the Navy in 2014 and served with the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam, was placed under surveillance after suspicious digital activity was detected before his arrest.
