The UK's annual inflation rate rose to 2.9% in July, up from 2.6% in June, primarily driven by a 13% increase in the Ofgem energy price cap.
The energy cap hike, effective July 1, adds approximately £221 to the average household's annual utility bill, according to official data.
While energy costs surged, the Office for National Statistics reported that food price inflation remained at 1.3%, the lowest level recorded in nearly five years.
