Airlines at a meeting with Mumbai airport operator MIAL requested that the temporary shifting of international flights to Navi Mumbai International Airport should not occur before the winter 2027 schedule.
The operator proposed temporarily shifting international traffic accounting for five million passengers per annum to the new airport to facilitate the structural redevelopment of Terminal 1.
Demolition of Terminal 1 is scheduled to begin in April 2027 with completion targeted for December 2030, raising total airport passenger capacity to 65 million annually.
