
The death toll from the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has reached 3,007, according to official government figures released on Wednesday.
As of August 31, the country has recorded 6,186 confirmed cases across 60 health zones in six provinces, resulting in a case fatality rate of 48.6 percent.
This epidemic, which began in May, is currently the largest in the nation's history and the second-deadliest globally, trailing only the 2014-2016 West Africa outbreak.
