A Myanmar military airstrike near a market in Kyauktaw township, Rakhine state, killed at least 49 people and injured 58 others on Monday.
The strike hit the region's main wholesale centre in an area controlled by the Arakan Army, dropping two bombs from a fighter jet around noon.
The Arakan Army stated that the dead included vendors and shoppers, with 22 of the injured in critical condition, and vowed effective retaliatory measures.
